SERI ISKANDAR, The Perak state government is targeting a sales value of RM800,000 at the four-day Malaysia Fest 2024 Expo in Singapore, which will involve eight entrepreneurs starting July 25.

State Women Development, Family, Social Welfare, Cooperatives and Entrepreneur Development Committee chairman Datuk Salbiah Mohamed said the Perak State Entrepreneur Secretariat and the Perak Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) are covering part of the costs to bring the eight Perak food entrepreneurs to Singapore.

‘All these entrepreneurs have undergone the application and interview process and were selected based on their capabilities, the programme focus, and production capacity to introduce the state products to the Singapore market.

‘The participation of entrepreneurs in such expos will also help boost the economy in Perak besides providing them the opportunity to build business networks and find potential importers to expand into the Singapore market,’ she said, adding that the products to be sold a
t the expo include various types of cooking paste, sauces, wafer rolls, and chilli oil, among other things.

She spoke to reporters after the products’ send-off ceremony officiated by Perak Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture, and Food Industries Committee chairman Datuk Zolkafly Harun at the Seri Iskandar multipurpose hall here today.

Salbiah said four entrepreneurs under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) and two self-sponsored traders are also participating in the expo.

According to her, eight state entrepreneurs who were selected to join the Malaysia Fest Expo last year brought home RM802,422 in cash sales.

Zolkafly expressed his hope that the Malaysia Fest 2024 Expo could highlight more Perak agro entrepreneurs on the international stage, aligning with the focus of the state government on making food security and agriculture a priority for state development.

‘The organisation of such expos should continue to provide more opportunities to and encourage more people to venture into agro
-industry and agro-tourism,’ he added.
