Perhilitan Successfully Transfers Two More Wild Elephants From Kluang

Kluang: The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has successfully relocated two wild elephants from Kampung Sri Lukut, Kahang, Kluang to a more suitable habitat. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon highlighted that these elephants were part of a group of nine captured during an operation on July 14. Previously, four elephants were relocated to a suitable environment on July 23. Additionally, a juvenile elephant was sent to the elephant sanctuary in Kota Tinggi for training as a guide elephant. The remaining two elephants are scheduled for transfer on July 28. Ling Tian Soon described the operation as the largest elephant transfer in the state's history, supported by special elephant units from another state. This effort aims to mitigate human-elephant conflicts in the region. The transfer process took five hours to complete. Perhilitan had previously noted that between 2020 and 2024, they received 699 complaints related to eleph ants in Johor, with 228 complaints originating from Kluang, indicating it as a significant area of human-elephant conflict within the state.
