Kluang: The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) has transferred another two elephants caught in Kampung Sri Lukut, Kahang, Kluang to a suitable habitat today. Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon stated that these elephants were part of a group of nine captured during an operation on July 14. According to BERNAMA News Agency, four of the elephants had already been relocated to a suitable location on July 23, and a juvenile elephant was sent to the elephant sanctuary in Kota Tinggi for training as a guide elephant. The remaining two elephants are scheduled for transfer on July 28. Ling mentioned that this transfer marks the biggest in the state's history, with assistance from special elephant units from another state, aiming to mitigate human-elephant conflict in the region. Perhilitan had earlier reported receiving 699 complaints related to elephants in Johor between 2020 and 2024, with 228 complaints originating from Kluang, identifying it as a hotspot for human -elephant conflicts in the state.
