Perkeso Launches Ops Kesan 2024 for Foreign Workers Nationwide.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) today launched the Ops Kesan 2024 initiative for foreign workers, involving 54 Perkeso offices nationwide simultaneously. Perkeso Group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed stated that Ops Kesan 2024, implemented for the first time, is designed to identify employers who have not registered and contributed for their eligible foreign workers under the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as of September 30, Perkeso data indicates that only about 88 percent of foreign workers in Malaysia are registered with the organisation. The registration rate for foreign domestic workers is notably lower at 59 percent, highlighting the need for enforcement measures. Dr Mohammed Azman expressed concern over the lack of social security protection for foreign workers in the event of accidents or injuries during their employment in Malaysia.

He emphasized that the registration and contribution to Per
keso are not intended to burden employers but are necessary to ensure foreign workers’ rights to social security protection in accordance with international standards. Furthermore, issues such as the misuse of work passes among foreign workers often arise during investigations, leading to situations where injured workers cannot access the social security benefits provided by Perkeso.

Dr Mohammed Azman warned that employers who fail to register their companies and employees or delay doing so could face fines of up to RM10,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.
