Kuala lumpur: The family of K. Suresh, a victim of the water surge incident at Pintasan Saloma on November 17, will receive benefits from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Perkeso stated that Suresh, who was a 37-year-old supervisor at contractor company Palladium Builders Sdn Bhd, was a contributor under the LINDUNG Pekerja Scheme of the Employees' Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4). Despite his last contribution being made in April, Perkeso acted swiftly to address the situation. The organisation contacted Suresh's employer to settle outstanding contributions from May to October 2025, ensuring his active contributor status and his family's eligibility for full protection.
Suresh's dependents, his wife Shalini Devi A. Prupakaran, 31, and their six-year-old son Pratezwaran, are now entitled to a dependents' benefit of RM2,655 per month and a RM3,000 lump sum for funeral expenses. The incident occurred at 5.40 pm on November 17, when Suresh was swept away by a strong current while attempting to move his vehicle after noticing a water surge. He was with 12 others, including his workers, who were all rescued by the Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department. Suresh's body was discovered four days later, 45 kilometres from where he went missing.
Perkeso extended its condolences and expressed hope for the family's strength during this challenging time. The organisation also emphasized its commitment to facilitating smooth claim processes and announced plans to conduct the Ziarah Prihatin programme soon. Employers were reminded of their responsibility to keep workers' contributions current, especially for those in high-risk environments.
