Perlis Customs Seizes Undeclared Goods Worth Over RM640,000

Kuala Lumpur: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) of Perlis seized various undeclared goods, including frozen chicken and motorcycle tyres, worth a total of RM645,832.52 recently. Perlis Customs director Ismail Hashim revealed that these seizures were carried out between May 5 and 20, encompassing cigarettes, liquor, and tyres valued at RM379,756.52, while frozen chicken accounted for RM266,076 of the total.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the estimated tax and duties from the seizure amount to RM196,173.50. Ismail stated at a media conference held at the enforcement store that the 28,008 kilogrammes of frozen chicken were seized during an inspection of a container at the Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) Complex on May 5.

The seizure of 7,526 motorcycle tyres, valued at RM345,009, was made during an inspection of two containers at Port Klang, Selangor, on May 20. These incidents are currently under investigation under Section 133(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967 for making incorrect declarations or falsifying documents.

Additionally, on May 17, Perlis Customs conducted two separate raids. One took place at a premises in Taiping, Perak, where 24,210 sticks of cigarettes and 113.25 litres of liquor, worth RM11,173.52, were seized. The other raid occurred in Sungai Petani, where 73,040 sticks of cigarettes, valued at RM23,574, were confiscated. Investigations into these seizures are being conducted under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possessing, importing, or exporting goods that are subject to duty or prohibited without proper authorisation.
