Kuala lumpur: Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin has been called upon to quickly submit information regarding an alleged deviant cult from Korea that is reportedly active within Malaysia. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail emphasized the importance of this step to allow the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to commence an investigation into these allegations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution stated the necessity for Mohd Asri to present complete information to the authorities, asserting that Mohd Asri has the details necessary for the investigation. Saifuddin made these remarks during a press conference following the Home Ministry's monthly assembly.
When questioned about the police receiving any reports concerning the alleged Korean cult, which is said to be involved in unconventional and deviant practices, Saifuddin Nasution reiterated the need for a formal complaint to trigger an inquiry. Recently, Mohd Asri had alleged through a Facebook post that several Muslim Members of Parliament and notable figures were actively supporting the cult. This issue, according to Mohd Asri, had also been discussed at the Perlis State Fatwa Committee meeting.
Saifuddin highlighted that the PDRM's Special Branch has a dedicated unit responsible for managing deviant teachings across different religions. This unit monitors the activities and methods of the groups and individuals involved. He further stated that any investigation will align with existing legal frameworks, urging Mohd Asri to officially report the matter so that the police can initiate the investigation without delay.
