PERLIS TO HOST FIRST-EVER FESTIVAL KRAF UTARA 2023

Perlis has been chosen as the hosts of the inaugural Festival Kraf Utara (FKU) 2023, which will be held at the Kraftangan Malaysia Perlis Branch from Sept 22 to Oct 1.

Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation (Kraftangan Malaysia) Industry Development Division senior director Azran Arip said Perlis was chosen as the inaugural host for FKU2023 because of its high potential in the tourism industry and its strategic geographical position as a destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

“For the first edition we chose Perlis as the host and it will later be held in other northern states in the following years and we hope FKU2023 can help promote the Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025,” he told Bernama here today.

Azran said FKU2023 features the theme ‘This is Malaysian Craft’, highlighting the diversity of Malaysian craft products, with at least 60 handicraft entrepreneurs from all over the country from various sectors such as textile craft, forest produce, land produce, metal and various handicrafts confirming their participation so far.

The festival’s main objective is to promote handicraft products, increase the public’s knowledge and awareness about handicrafts and help handicraft entrepreneurs market their products physically.

“For this first event, we are targeting sales of RM400,000 and 15,000 visitors,” he said, adding that visitors to the festival will also enjoy interesting activities such as craft demonstrations, interactive crafts, Let’s enter the Institut Kraf Negara (IKN), cultural performances, folk games and religious talks.
