Petrol Pump Manager Deceived By Online Part-time Job Scam, Loses Over RM90,000

Johor bahru: A petrol station manager here claimed to have lost RM91,167 after being deceived by an online scam offering a non-existent part-time job.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat said the victim, a 38-year-old local man, claimed to have befriended a woman through the social application 'Tinder'. The woman later offered him a part-time online job through an online dating site known as 'Inventorysources'.

Initial investigations revealed that the man was deceived into making nine money transfers from July 25 to 29 to several bank accounts in the names of individuals and companies. After the payments were made, the victim was informed that his account had been frozen, and his attempts to contact the suspect were futile.

Realising that he had been cheated, the victim lodged a police report yesterday. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
