Kuala lumpur: PETRONAS, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has launched the Hydraulic Workover Unit (HWU) Academy to develop Malaysian talent and strengthen national capabilities in well abandonment and decommissioning. The initiative reflects PETRONAS' ongoing efforts to enhance the skill set of the local workforce, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle the complexities of Plug and Abandonment (P and A) operations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the academy was officiated by the Senior Vice President of MPM, Datuk Ir. Bacho Pilong, on 23 October. This launch signifies PETRONAS' dedication to the continuous development of skilled talent, which is essential for executing safe, cost-effective, and sustainable P and A operations. These operations are a critical part of Malaysia's upstream lifecycle, reflecting the industry's evolving landscape and the increasing importance of decommissioning activities. The establishment of the HWU Academy is expected to play a crucial role in preparing the local workforce to meet these demands, ensuring that Malaysia remains at the forefront of the oil and gas sector.
