Puchong: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is actively preparing its election machinery for the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections, as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who also serves as the PH chairman, highlighted that the coalition is optimally mobilising all aspects of its election preparations, despite the short notice regarding the dissolution of the state legislative assemblies in both regions.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that efforts are being maximized in terms of election readiness, particularly for Johor, where the announcement was made with little lead time. He urged his colleagues within the government leadership to maintain a focus on economic issues and the general welfare of the populace. Anwar noted that while there was an initial two to three-month window available to concentrate on recovery efforts, the decision was made to advance with elections in Johor promptly.
Anwar further elaborated on the discussions held during PKR's Political Bureau meeting, where emphasis was placed on election developments in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan. With the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan assembly now confirmed, efforts are now underway to gear up for the elections in both states.
Last Monday saw Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announce the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor State Legislative Assembly, effective June 1. This move paves the way for the state election, which must occur within a 60-day timeframe. Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun revealed that the 36-seat Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved following the consent of the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
