Kuala lumpur: The government must act swiftly to restore public confidence in Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) and safeguard the rights of depositors following the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into the pilgrim fund, Pakatan Harapan (PH) said.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, PH Election Department Secretariat chief Saifuddin Shafi Muhammad emphasized the necessity of conducting a comprehensive investigation and taking firm legal action against anyone involved in alleged misconduct to protect the interests of the fund's nine million depositors. He insisted that any evidence of misconduct or abuse of power should be met with prosecution in accordance with the law, without compromise, to ensure accountability.

Saifuddin acknowledged the government's effort in releasing the Tabung Haji RCI report, highlighting it as a testament to its commitment to good governance, accountability, and transparency. He attributed the successful restoration of TH's financial management to the government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, stating that 75 percent of the RCI's recommendations had already been implemented.

Saifuddin noted that, as a result of these reforms, TH's assets now exceed its liabilities, enabling the declaration of a 3.5 percent dividend for 2025. He also mentioned the significant reform prohibiting politicians from serving in Tabung Haji and its subsidiaries. He urged the government to further strengthen governance and enhance the independence of oversight mechanisms to prevent the recurrence of past shortcomings.

Highlighting the sacred responsibility of managing the hard-earned savings of Muslim depositors entrusted to Tabung Haji, Saifuddin called for vigilance to ensure such responsibilities are never abused. His comments followed the announcement by Communications Minister and MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who stated that the Cabinet had agreed to declassify and make public the RCI report covering TH's management and operations between 2014 and 2020.

The 211-page report, which delves into issues concerning TH's management and operations, was published by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) on its website last night.
