IPOH, April 16 (Bernama) — The reactivation of the Perak Innovation and Creative Resources Centre (PiNCER) in Meru Raya here worth RM20 million is expected to attract foreign investors in creative industry, including from Indonesia and China.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said the reactivation of the studio, which is expected to be operational in the middle of this year, will make it one of the country’s advanced creative industry hubs after Cyberjaya, Selangor and Johor Bahru.
“PiNCER is part of the Ipoh City Council’s (MBI) plan to provide added value to the urban tourism sector through the ‘Art City’ element.
“I am confident that this PiNCER Studio will be a one-stop art centre for artists in the country and abroad because the creative industry that includes various elements of art should be the main requirement to turn a developed city as an art city.
“I also believe that if PINCER Studio is renovated and upgraded with equipment like cameras and so on, it will definitely attract art activists from within and outside the country to use the services provided,” he told a press conference after presenting donations to 31 underprivileged MBI staff here today.
Commenting further, Rumaizi said PiNCER MBI Studio Sdn Bhd is a private company established on March 17 to manage the PiNCER Studio in Meru Raya which has been abandoned since 2018.
“Based on the latest business capital, although MBI and the company are two different entities, PiNCER MBI Studio Sdn Bhd is the agent appointed to manage MBI’s assets,” he said.
Meanwhile, PiNCER MBI Studio Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Kah Fee Yee @ Thong said the refurbishment work on the studio is still ongoing and is expected to be completed within a month and a half.
He said the company also planned to collaborate with Media Prima Berhad in an effort to intensify the art industry through the studio.
“We plan to produce more local films and dramas at PiNCER Studio. We also plan to further intensify the animation industry in the country,” he added
