PKR Election Nomination Ends, Anwar Unchallenged For President Post

Kuala Lumpur: The nominations for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) 2025 Election, which concluded at 11.59 pm, revealed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim remains unopposed for the party's president position.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the deputy president role will feature a direct contest between Nurul Izzah Anwar and Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who currently holds the position.

For the vice president position, a total of 12 members have entered the race with their respective nominations. The candidates competing for the PKR vice presidency for the 2025-2028 term include notable figures such as Chang Lih Kang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability. Other prominent candidates are Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Selangor Menteri Besar, and Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar. The list also includes Datuk Seri R. Ramanan, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, and several other influential party members.

In addition, Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to the Minister of Finance, is the only candidate for the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) chief position. For the PKR Wanita chief post, a head-to-head battle is anticipated between Fadhlina Sidek, the Education Minister, and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail.

Nominations for the 2025 PKR Elections were conducted online over a span of two days, commencing on Thursday. The subsequent steps in the election process include an objection period on May 11 and 12, followed by objection appeals on May 13-14, with a withdrawal deadline set for May 14. The final list of candidates will be announced on May 15, preceding the campaign period from May 15 to May 22, with voting scheduled for May 23.

The PKR National Congress, which also encompasses the AMK Congress and Wanita Congress, is set to take place from May 21 to 24 in Johor Bahru.
