PKR Need To Be More Active Ahead Of GE16 – Nurul Izzah

Kuala Lumpur: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar wants the party to be more active ahead of the upcoming 16th general election (GE16), especially in shoring up support among rural communities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nurul Izzah stressed the importance of revamping discussions with component parties over the next 24 months to prevent the loss of momentum. She highlighted the need for urgency, warning against repeating past mistakes that could lead to PKR becoming a minority party. Nurul Izzah pointed out that while Malay votes for the party once reached 55 percent from its founding until 1999, the median has now dropped to 30 percent.

At a grassroots engagement event attended by fellow party vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and PKR Women’s chief Fadhlina Sidek, Nurul Izzah reiterated her commitment to strengthening a data-driven democratic culture within the party. She emphasized the importance of leveraging studies and research to guide party work, citing the Mu
ltidimensional Poverty Index Report conducted in 2021 in collaboration with Prof Dr Fatimah Kari, a former Universiti Malaya economics professor and former Centre for Poverty and Development Studies member.

Looking ahead, Nurul Izzah will contest against Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for the deputy president’s post in the upcoming party election set for next week.
