Kuala Lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated today that the recent PKR elections are purely matters of internal party dynamics and do not influence the workings of the government, dismissing rumors of a potential Cabinet reshuffle.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that the PKR elections were related to party leadership and were conducted smoothly. He assured that any issues or confusion could be addressed during the party elections. Anwar clarified that these elections would not impact the operations at the state or federal government levels, which continue to function normally.
Anwar, who also serves as the PKR president, noted that any decisions concerning Cabinet positions are determined by the performance of each member within the administration, independent of political contests. "I assess based on their performance, not political calculations," he mentioned at the Ministry of Higher Education's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. The event also saw the attendance of Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, his deputy Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Public Service director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
The PKR divisional elections, which concluded recently, resulted in some administration members losing their posts within the party divisions. Notably, Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister and PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad lost his Setiawangsa division chief position to actor and director Datuk Afdlin Shauki, who secured 631 votes compared to Nik Nazmi's 563.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim also failed to win the deputy chief post for the Hang Tuah Jaya division, receiving 791 votes against opponent Zamzizul Nordin's 1,905. Similarly, Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir was unable to retain the Johor Bahru division chief post, being defeated by Mohamad Taufiq Ismail. The Johor Bahru MP and PKR strategy director obtained 587 votes, while Mohamad Taufiq, the Johor PKR Youth chief, garnered 709 votes.
