PM Anwar and Unity Government MPs Participate in Dewan Rakyat Pre-Sitting Briefing


Putrajaya: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today attended a pre-sitting briefing with Unity Government members of parliament (MPs) at Kompleks Seri Perdana here. Present at the meeting were deputies Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and other Cabinet ministers. The nearly two-hour closed session, which began in the afternoon, concluded at approximately 5 pm.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, the First Meeting of the Fourth Term of the 15th Parliament is set to commence tomorrow, with the Royal Address by Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, being a primary focus during the opening ceremony. The official Parliament calendar indicates that a Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address will follow.



The Dewan Rakyat session, scheduled to last 18 days, will feature MPs debating the motion for seven days starting February 4. Responses from relevant ministers are expected to be delivered from February 19 to 25. The session will also include the presentation of bills and other governmental matters in its final six days, beginning February 26.



Notably, this Dewan Rakyat session will address the second reading of several bills, including the Mufti (Federal Territories) Bill 2024, Communications and Multimedia (Amendments) Bill 2024, Malaysian Media Council Bill 2024, and BERNAMA (Amendment) Bill 2024. Furthermore, the White Paper on the Ageing Nation Agenda will be presented, outlining socio-economic development plans aimed at addressing Malaysia’s transition to an ageing nation by 2030 and a ‘super-aged’ nation by 2044.
