Bandar seri begawan: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim touched down today in Brunei for a two-day working visit to participate in the 27th Annual Leaders' Consultation (ALC-27) between Malaysia and Brunei. The special aircraft carrying Anwar and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, landed at Brunei International Airport at 6.10 pm, where they were welcomed by Brunei's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Abdul Mateen Bolkiah.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, accompanying the Prime Minister were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Foreign Ministry Secretary-General Tan Sri Amran Mohamed Zin, and Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan. During his visit, Anwar is scheduled to meet with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah at the Nurul Iman Palace for a private discussion.
Both leaders are anticipated to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on disaster management cooperation. The ALC-27 serves as the primary bilateral mechanism between Malaysia and Brunei, allowing leaders to assess bilateral cooperation and discuss regional and international issues of common interest.
In 2025, the trade volume between Malaysia and Brunei was reported at RM5.86 billion (US$1.37 billion), with Malaysia exporting goods worth RM4.20 billion (US$0.98 billion) and importing RM1.66 billion (US$0.39 billion). For the first half of 2026, trade between these nations reached RM2.38 billion (US$600 million).
