PM Anwar Hails Bernama As Pillar Of Credible News

Kuala lumpur: The services, sacrifices and commitment of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) staff have successfully positioned the agency as one of the country's important pillars in delivering authentic and high-integrity news, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that the role played by Bernama has also strengthened public understanding, preserved national unity, and elevated Malaysia's image on the international stage. This has been particularly significant amid the rapid rise of digital technology, artificial intelligence, and the overflow of borderless information, as well as the challenges of the increasingly complex media world.

Anwar conveyed his congratulations on Bernama's 59th anniversary through a Facebook post, expressing hopes that the agency will continue to uphold facts, journalistic ethics, and public trust, ensuring that the people receive truthful and responsible information.

Bernama was established under the Bernama Act 1967 and began operations on May 20, 1968. Initially, it provided text news services before expanding into photo, radio, television, and digital media platforms. The agency currently employs 967 staff members comprising permanent, contract, and part-time personnel.
