Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Works Ministry (KKR) to enforce stringent measures against contractors who exhibit negligence and fail to adhere to project deadlines. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of timely project completion due to the ministry's pivotal role in numerous development initiatives impacting the populace.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Finance Minister stressed the urgency of expediting projects, illustrating the repercussions of delays on public welfare. He noted that a postponed bridge completion from January to February can inconvenience people for a month, while more extended delays can exacerbate hardships significantly. Anwar urged KKR to catalog all ongoing projects, highlighting the necessity of maintaining performance records and taking decisive action against underperforming contractors.

In addressing the ministry's monthly assembly, Anwar underscored the importance of continuous monitoring and prompt resolution of issues that could hinder project execution. He advocated for regular state-level surveillance to ensure projects proceed as planned, recognizing that local officers often possess superior insights into project needs.

Anwar also cited the Kampung Angkat Sejati MADANI programme as a strategic initiative to foster connectivity between the leadership and the community, emphasizing the collaborative nature of development efforts. He called on government officials to consistently enhance their performance to deliver tangible project outcomes.

Highlighting specific challenges in Sabah, the Prime Minister acknowledged the persistent issues with water supply, electricity, and road infrastructure despite historical funding allocations. Anwar expressed empathy for the frustration felt by citizens due to unfulfilled promises, reiterating the government's commitment to resolving these long-standing issues to prevent feelings of marginalization.
