Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has requested the Election Commission (EC) to deliver an updated report concerning the proposed redelineation aimed at increasing the number of seats in the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly. MADANI Government spokesman Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil disclosed that the issue was discussed during a recent Cabinet meeting, where the Prime Minister also conveyed his commitment to implementing the proposal.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi noted that the Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of the process and mentioned that it involves the EC. However, the specific timeline for implementation has not been communicated to the Cabinet due to pending requirements from the EC. Fahmi shared these insights while addressing reporters after the JAPEN@PETRONAS Jalur Gemilang Expression Programme.

Media sources indicated that during the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi brought up the issue of Sarawak State Legislative Assembly delineation. In July last year, the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (Composition of Membership) Bill 2025 was proposed, aiming to add 17 new seats, which would increase the total to 99 seats.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is also the Minister of Communications, stated that his party is preparing for the upcoming state election in Melaka. This preparation includes determining the location for the media room and ensuring internet access at all polling centers. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has been instructed to collaborate with the EC to address internet requirements at polling centers in Melaka, drawing from past preparations in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
