PM Anwar Pushes for Quick Action to Fill Over 4,000 Doctor Vacancies

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Ministry of Health (MOH) to streamline the bureaucratic process to expedite the recruitment of 4,352 positions at health facilities, including the appointment of contract doctors, according to Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi, who also serves as the MADANI Government spokesperson, reported that the Prime Minister raised the issue during a Cabinet Meeting. Anwar emphasized the need to accelerate the process as the MOH had initially anticipated that most or all of the positions would be filled by November. However, Anwar believes this timeline is too late, prompting the need for a faster resolution.

Fahmi highlighted the urgency of filling more than 4,000 vacancies in the health sector, stressing that Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad committed to expediting the process without compromising on procedures. Last Wednesday, during the Appreciation Announcement for Malaysians, Anwar reiterated the government's plan to hasten the filling of these critical posts this year to address the urgent needs of the country's healthcare sector.
