Kuala Lumpur: Perikatan Nasional (PN) has never submitted a counterproposal to the government regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on allocations for opposition Members of Parliament (MPs), said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. Fadillah, who also heads the Government Consultative Council Committee, stated that PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's assertion that the MoU's terms were unusually strict was known only through media reports. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fadillah mentioned that he has not received any counterproposal from PN. He emphasized that the government had already presented the MoU, its terms, and shared it with the media, making the public aware of its content. He expressed that if PN disagreed, they could submit a counterproposal instead of outright rejecting it as too strict. This statement was made during a media briefing after the Ihya Ramadan programme, which was also attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Muhyiddin had previously claime d that PN had valid reasons for rejecting the government's conditions regarding allocations for opposition MPs. He alleged that the MoU's conditions were unusually strict, implying that the opposition had to concede everything to the government. Fadillah further noted that the only response the government has received regarding the MoU came from Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman. He remarked that discussions with the opposition could only proceed if they provided feedback. Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar emphasized that the government remains open to discussions with the opposition concerning allocations for opposition MPs. Anwar, who also holds the position of Finance Minister, stated that any issues arising could be addressed through meetings, and the draft MoU on allocations for opposition MPs could be amended if necessary.
