MANILA: Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Friday ordered the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) to go after scammers using his name in illegal activities.
‘May dumating na report sa akin na they are using my name, kasi yan po talaga ang nangyayari kapag may bagong chief PNP. I really don’t tolerate yung mga ganyang bagay. Hindi po tama yan na ginagamit yung PNP, nai-involve sa ganitong illegal activities (I have received a report that they are using my name. That is what happens when a new PNP chief is appointed. I don’t tolerate these things. It is not proper for the PNP to be involved in these illegal activities),’ Marbil said in a media interview on the sidelines of the 41st anniversary celebration of the Special Action Force in Fort Sto. Domingo, Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
This came after the CIDG arrested a suspect identified as Deanson Magsino for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, along Gen. Malvar Ave. Barangay Poblacion 1,
Sto. Tomas City, Batangas at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The operating team asked Magsino to present a license and permit to carry a caliber .45 pistol with one magazine and seven rounds of live ammunition. The suspect, however, failed to present proper documents.
Arresting officers then learned that the suspect was involved in collecting money from establishments, together with a certain ‘Steve Andrew”, using the PNP chief’s name in the provinces of Laguna, Batangas, and Cavite.
The arrested person and the confiscated pieces of evidence were brought to CIDG 4-A (Calabarzon) headquarters for documentation and proper disposition.
