Police Advise Malaysian Motorcyclists, Drivers Entering Thailand To Comply With Local Laws

Kota bharu: Malaysian motorcyclists and motorists entering Thailand are advised to comply with local laws there to avoid enforcement action. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat emphasized the importance of familiarising oneself with the regulations in Thailand, highlighting differences in laws between the two countries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Yusoff stated at a press conference at the Kelantan Contingent Police Headquarters that road users should be aware of the legal variations. He noted that Thai nationals must also obey Malaysian laws when entering the country. He cited the example of motorcycle modifications, which might be permitted in Malaysia but not in Thailand, underscoring the necessity to understand foreign regulations prior to crossing borders.

He further advised Malaysian vehicle users to consider additional requirements such as insurance coverage. These measures, he pointed out, are crucial in preventing Malaysian travellers from facing detention or fines while in Thailand.

Earlier reports highlighted that a group of 17 Malaysian motorcyclists travelling to Hat Yai, Thailand received 15 summonses from Thai authorities. These summonses, amounting to 15,000 baht (about RM1,850), were issued for various traffic offences, including the use of flashing lights, loud exhaust systems, and other violations.
