Police Apprehend 14 in Seremban Cable Theft Operation

Seremban:Police have arrested 14 individuals, including two women, for suspected involvement in a cable theft incident at a road junction near a school in Panchor last Friday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the suspects, aged between 22 and 67, were apprehended on the same day during a special operation called Ops Lusuh. This operation took place across Labu, Nilai, and Dengkil in Selangor.

The incident came to light when a resident reported seeing four masked men pulling cables from two manholes using four vehicles. These cables are believed to belong to a telecommunications company. The report prompted a response from a team in the Criminal Investigation Department's D4 Branch at the Negeri Sembilan Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK), leading to the suspects' arrests at various locations.

Police Chief ACP Mohd Yatim stated that the police seized five cars, tools allegedly used for cutting and stealing cables, three gunny sacks filled with burnt copper wires, and several pieces of clothing suspected to have been worn by the suspects during the crime.

The suspects have been remanded until today to aid the ongoing investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. Mohd Yatim added that the arrests have helped solve multiple cable theft cases in Negeri Sembilan, as well as in Selangor, Kedah, and Melaka.
