Jasin: A jobless man was confirmed dead after he was allegedly beaten by a furious mob, following a lewd act he committed in the parking lot of a supermarket in Jasin, said Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar. He stated that in the incident at about 9 pm, the 51-year-old victim died at the scene due to severe bodily injuries. The victim had two previous records under Section 377D of the Penal Code for committing gross indecency in a public place in 2003 and 2024.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim is suspected to have carried out an act of gross indecency at 7.26 pm before being chased and assaulted by several individuals. In his attempt to escape, the victim covered a distance of about 200 meters, which included a desperate leap into a river, before being apprehended and beaten again by the public.
Melaka police chief further informed that seven men aged between their 20s to 50s, including a Pakistani national, have been remanded for seven days starting today to aid in the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
In another separate incident, Dzulkhairi reported that a motorcyclist in his 30s has been remanded for three days for allegedly beating a man in his 20s in a confrontation near Bulatan Kancil in the Stadthuys compound at Banda Hilir. This incident reportedly took place after the suspect and 17 of his biker friends were fined by the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) enforcement officers for breaching the Vehicle Free Zone (ZBK) regulations in the area.
The MBMB enforcement officers had initially requested the group of motorcyclists to leave, but their orders were disregarded, leading to the issuance of summonses. The situation escalated when the group, led by the suspect, tore up the summonses, resulting in a confrontation with another group of bikers. During the altercation, the victim was struck with a helmet and a wheel lock and later taken to the Melaka Hospital with minor injuries.
Dzulkhairi mentioned that all 23 individuals involved in this incident were arrested between 9.30 pm and 1 am, but 22 of them were released on police bail, while the suspect remains in custody for three days. This case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the performance of his duties.
