Police Dismiss Double Standard Claims In Handling Of Two Fatal Accidents

Penang: Police have rejected allegations of practising double standards in taking action over two recent fatal accident cases. Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay stated that the claims were unfounded, emphasizing that every action taken is based on evidence, legal considerations, and the circumstances of each case.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ayob Khan highlighted the situation involving a 72-year-old car driver suffering from various illnesses and undergoing dialysis treatment. He explained that remanding the elderly driver would hinder necessary medical treatment, which is why bail was granted. Ayob Khan clarified that if the driver were involved in a murder case, the response would differ significantly.

In contrast, Ayob Khan discussed another incident involving a van driver who fatally struck a child. He noted that the 60-year-old van driver was healthy, allowing the police to exercise discretion in remanding him. He reiterated that the police are not practising double standards or bias, but rather, are making decisions based on individual case circumstances.

Ayob Khan assured that investigations into both cases are ongoing, and there would be no compromise against anyone found guilty. The public dispute initially arose on social media regarding the actions taken in the cases, where one involved a van driver accused of reckless driving causing the death of a Year Two pupil, and the other involved a Proton X70 driver who was released on police bail due to health reasons.
