Batu ferringhi: Police are investigating claims that a Belgian woman was injured by a stray bullet while she was at home in her condominium unit in Batu Ferringhi last Monday. Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail reported that the woman, 67, a Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) visa holder, claimed she was at home when she heard a bang and sustained an injury at 5.35 am.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victim, who resides with her son, received treatment at a private hospital and was admitted for a day. She subsequently lodged a police report about the incident at 11.39 am the following day. Investigations conducted at the scene by a forensics team discovered blood splatter in a room of the condominium, which is believed to be from the victim. However, they did not find any bullet or signs of a gunshot in her home.
The statement from the doctor who treated the victim indicated that she suffered a laceration wound above her eyebrow. The injury was attributed to a blunt object, with no gunshot wounds detected on her body. Preliminary investigations revealed several inconsistencies in the victim's statement, and further inquiries are ongoing to determine the true cause of the incident that resulted in her injury.
The case is being investigated under Section 37 of the Arms Act 1960 for causing injury with an arm without lawful excuse, as stated by the police chief.
