Kulai:Police are investigating an incident in which several houses at a Myanmar refugee settlement in Kulai Besar, Kulai, were hit by Molotov cocktails early today. The attack occurred at 130 am and resulted in only a minor fire on the gates of the affected houses. No injuries or other damages were reported.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor police chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad indicated that the possibility of individuals dissatisfied with two viral Facebook posts being responsible for the act has not been ruled out. The videos in question depicted a group of individuals, believed to be Myanmar refugees, challenging Malays to go to Kulai and accusing them of being cowards and afraid to enter the area.
A Myanmar refugee in his 30s had lodged a report denying involvement in the viral videos, claiming that his photo was misused to create them. The police have opened two investigation papers under Sections 436, 505(b), and 505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
Datuk Ab Rahaman stressed that the police view this incident seriously and are committed to taking stern action against anyone found disrupting peace and harmony in the state. He urged the public to provide any information about the incident by contacting the nearest police station, calling the Johor Police hotline at 019-2792095, or reaching the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters Operations Room at 07-2212999.
