Police Officer Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash Near Gerik

Gerik: A police officer was killed, and two others were injured in an accident involving two trailer lorries and a car at Kilometre 85.3 on the Kuala Kangsar-Pengkalan Hulu Road, near Kampung Tawai in Gerik, early this morning. Gerik Police Chief Supt Abdul Samad Othman confirmed the incident occurred at 1.50 am and involved a Mercedes-Benz lorry loaded with logs, a Scania cargo trailer carrying fertiliser, and a Toyota Vios car driven by the police officer.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, preliminary investigations revealed that the fertiliser-laden trailer lorry, driven by a 23-year-old man from Kuala Kangsar heading towards Gerik, lost control before skidding and colliding with the right side of the log-loaded trailer driven by a 59-year-old man coming from the opposite direction. As a result of the collision, the fertiliser trailer veered into the opposite lane and struck the Toyota Vios driven by the 42-year-old police officer from the Gerik District Police Headquarters.

The police officer was confirmed dead at the scene, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
