Shah Alam:A police sergeant major pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to four charges of accepting bribes totaling RM2,400, allegedly committed four years ago.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Roslee Mamat, 43, who serves in the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division at the Setiu Police headquarters, was accused of accepting bribes ranging from RM400 to RM1,000. These bribes were purportedly taken from an individual in exchange for advance information on police operations, which would allow the individual to evade arrest.
The alleged offenses took place at a bank branch in Shah Alam, Selangor, and at Masjid Gong Terap in Setiu between October and December 2022. The charges fall under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 and are punishable under Section 24(1) of the same act. If found guilty, the accused faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
Judge Azman Mustapha set bail at RM6,000 with one surety and scheduled the next court mention for October 27. Roslee was instructed to surrender his passport and report monthly to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office.
The case is being prosecuted by MACC deputy public prosecutor Nur Amalina Najwa Mohd Ali, while Roslee is represented by lawyer Mohd Fakhrul Fikri Mokhtar.
