Sarawak: Post-mortem examinations on all five victims of the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang were still ongoing as of 5 pm today, according to Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah. He confirmed the progress of the examinations during a conversation with Bernama.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the post-mortem examinations at Hospital Miri's Forensic Department are taking considerable time due to the condition of the victims' remains. The remains were severely burnt and incomplete, necessitating meticulous examination. The Bernama check at the hospital revealed that the entrance gate to the Forensic Department was closed, restricting access to outsiders.

Media personnel, who had been stationed since morning at the lobby of the hospital's old building, noted the absence of victims' family members in the area. It has been understood by Bernama that upon completion of the post-mortems, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples will be dispatched to the Chemistry Department in Kuching for analysis and formal identification. The release of the remains to the respective families will be contingent on the completion of this analysis and identification process.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) reported that the tragic accident occurred on Tuesday when a BO-105 helicopter, carrying five people including the pilot, crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport). The victims were identified as pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr. Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44.
