PPj Initiates Study for Putrajaya 2050 Development Strategy

Putrajaya: The Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) is undertaking a comprehensive study to devise a new development strategy for the city extending to the year 2050, as announced by Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories). She emphasized that this study is vital for the formulation of the Putrajaya Structure Plan 2050 (RSP50) and the Putrajaya Local Plan (RTP), following the expiration of the Putrajaya Structure Plan 2025.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the study is currently in its second phase, which includes the preparation of the RSP50 Scrutiny Report. This phase involves identifying key issues and challenges, assessing the achievements and shortfalls of the 2025 plan, and making preliminary proposals for the city's development strategy up to 2050. Dr Zaliha shared these updates on her official Facebook page, highlighting the importance of strategic planning for Putrajaya's future.

During a recent briefing, Dr Zaliha mentioned that PPj presented 16 strategic findings related to various aspects such as physical infrastructure, demographics, housing, economic growth, tourism, environmental sustainability, and urban governance. One notable proposal from the briefing is the creation of a Special Tourism Investment Zone aimed at enhancing high-quality tourism investment and diversifying Putrajaya's economy.

Additionally, the proposals suggest the development of an integrated data hub at the Putrajaya Urban Observatory to tackle data-sharing limitations between agencies, thereby enhancing data-driven decision-making capabilities. Other key recommendations focus on strengthening the public transport network and improving the management of water resources and solid waste.

To incorporate diverse perspectives into the planning process, Dr Zaliha has invited all Putrajaya residents to participate in a one-month Public Hearing session for the RSP50, commencing on December 17 at the Putrajaya Corporation Complex. She stressed the importance of public input in shaping the city's future, ensuring that the strategy is data-centric, future-oriented, and aligned with the goal of transforming Putrajaya into a "Visionary Smart City."
