Kuala lumpur: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) today announced the appointment of Tan Sri Mohd Nasir Ahmad as its new Group Chairman, effective August 1, replacing Tan Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim, who retired on April 30.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Nasir previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad (PUNB) until June 1, 2011, and was appointed Group Chairman of CIMB Holdings Berhad in 2018.
Prasarana further revealed in a statement the appointment of Amir Hamdan as Acting President and Group Chief Executive Officer, effective July 15. Amir, previously the Group Chief Operating Officer (Operations), steps in as the term of Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah concludes on July 14.
Amir has been with Prasarana since 2019, initially joining as Deputy Chief Financial Officer before being promoted to Chief Executive Officer of Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd in 2022. During his time at Rapid Rail, Amir has led several initiatives aimed at boosting operational efficiency and the reliability of rail services.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Lincoln University of New Zealand and a Master's in Islamic Finance Practice from INCEIF University. Amir is also a certified member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
Prasarana expressed its appreciation and gratitude to Jamaludin and Mohd Azharuddin for their services and leadership during their tenure. Under their leadership, Prasarana achieved a record high daily rail and bus passenger count of 1.5 million as of December 31, 2024. They also reduced the number of rail service disruptions from 255 in 2022 to 71 in 2024 and introduced new initiatives like the Rapid On-Demand (ROD) van service.
