Prime Minister Anwar Affirms Support for Unhindered Gatherings at Parliament

Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasized the importance of allowing peaceful assemblies to take place without obstruction in front of the Parliament Building. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, serving as the spokesperson for the MADANI Government, relayed Anwar's stance following a Cabinet Meeting held today. Anwar highlighted the need to prioritize security and traffic management during such gatherings.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, there was a discussion among members of Parliament and the Cabinet regarding the possibility of establishing a designated area for assemblies, away from the Parliament premises. Despite suggestions to relocate gatherings to Padang Merbok, Anwar firmly rejected this proposal, maintaining that assemblies should continue to be held in front of Parliament.

In a related matter, Fahmi revealed that Anwar has directed Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa to implement enhancements around the Padang Merbok area. These improvements aim to facilitate better public access and usage of the field.

The media recently reported that Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had been instructed to provide public access to Padang Merbok, aligning with the vision of Bandar CHASE, which advocates for a healthier city. Zaliha noted that Padang Merbok holds significant historical value and should be fully utilized for recreational activities by the community.
