Prime Minister Anwar Emphasizes Role of Higher Education in Developing Ethical Youth

Kuala Lampur:According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted the significant role of higher education institutions in nurturing the morals, character, and sense of responsibility among the younger generation. Speaking at the 2026 National Student Figure Awards (ATSN) ceremony, he emphasized the importance of instilling strong principles in students to resist corruption and abuse of power in their future careers.

Anwar pointed out that while students today may speak against corruption, they must be prepared to uphold their principles when faced with temptations, such as bribes, in their professional lives. He underscored the necessity of grounding education in faith, morals, and character, alongside academic achievement.

The Prime Minister also encouraged Generation Z to develop a profound awareness of societal service and to address systemic issues. He identified the need for young people to differentiate right from wrong, noting that knowledge alone does not ensure moral integrity, as evidenced by recent scandals involving educated individuals.

Anwar urged students to leverage educational opportunities not just for personal advancement but to benefit their families, society, and the nation. He stressed the importance of unity among diverse races and regions to reduce disparities in Malaysia.

At the event, Anwar awarded the National Student Figure Award to Mohamad Amar Aidid Mohd Zain from Universiti Utara Malaysia and the Student Leadership Synergy Award to the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Students' Union. The ATSN 2026, themed 'Gemerlapan Saujana,' serves as a national platform recognizing students who greatly impact society and national development.
