Kota kinabalu: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today launched the Mobile Integrated Radio and Internet Communication System (PRIME) for Sabah in conjunction with the Hari Bersama Komuniti (HBK) programme at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), Kampung Sungai Imam here. The system aims to enhance communication capabilities during disaster scenarios, ensuring more effective and rapid response operations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) stated that PRIME is a versatile vehicle-based communication system. It is equipped with satellite, cellular networks, mobile radio, Wi-Fi, and drone support, all of which are crucial for facilitating disaster rescue operations. The system is designed to provide seamless communication, significantly improving the efficiency of emergency response teams.
The event saw the presence of notable figures including Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali. MCMC mentioned that currently, two PRIME units are operational in Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah, while a third unit for Sarawak is expected to be deployed by October 2025.
The HBK community outreach initiative, which coincided with National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, took place across 1,099 NADI centres nationwide. The programme featured various activities such as smart service initiatives, Jualan RAHMAH by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry, and exhibitions by NADI entrepreneurs. A highlight of the event was the presentation of contributions under the Didik Kasih Peranti MADANI (PERMAI) programme to outstanding students by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department (ICU, JPM).
Moreover, appointment letters were given to NADI Advisory Panel chairmen for the Kalabakan, Tawau, and Lahad Datu parliamentary constituencies. Earlier in the day, Fahmi inspected the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) Phase 1 tower in Kg. Kuala Merotai, which commenced operations on September 27, 2024. Managed by Redtone, the tower employs the 4-Way Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) with shared services from CelcomDigi, Maxis, and U Mobile, offering 4G speeds of approximately 50Mbps to around 1,200 residents.
