The department emphasized its commitment to prioritizing inmates' welfare, health, hygiene, and safety, including the provision of basic necessities, in line with existing regulations and procedures. Earlier, Lawyers for Liberty raised concerns over alleged water shortages and unsanitary conditions at Kajang Prison. These concerns followed a complaint received from lawyers representing inmates involved in trials under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (SOSMA), held within the prison premises. The complaints included limited water supply, insufficient drinking water, difficulties accessing toilets, dirty food trays, and concerns over the hygiene of meals provided to inmates.
