Kuala lumpur: The proposed amendment to the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) Act 1981 was among the matters discussed during a meeting held yesterday between Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, his deputy Teo Nie Ching, and FINAS members. The meeting aimed to address the need to align the Act with technological advancements and current digital content production trends.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Teo Nie Ching, in a Facebook post, emphasized the importance of the proposed amendment as a step to keep up with the evolving technological landscape. She expressed confidence that with the commitment and cooperation of all parties, Malaysia's creative industry could experience growth in a rapid, inclusive, and sustainable manner. Teo highlighted the continuous role of FINAS in building an ecosystem that supports local talent, fosters innovation, and elevates Malaysia as a respected regional content hub.
The meeting was also attended by Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa. In the same post, Teo congratulated the success of "Ejen Ali The Movie 2," now officially recognized as the highest-grossing animated film in Malaysian history. Additionally, she acknowledged the success of the drama series "Bidaah," which has recorded over 2.5 billion views on digital platforms and social media.
