PruBSN to contribute 30,000 free takaful coverage to B40 group

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) — Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad, (PruBSN) through its charity arm PruBSN Prihatin, will distribute free takaful (Islamic) insurance PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah coverage to 30,000 recipients from the B40 group this year.

The programme, with the co-operation of the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, is the first such initiative in Malaysia providing basic protection of one year to the B40 family breadwinner.

PruBSN chief marketing officer, Datin Sri Azlin Arshad, in a statement, said PruBSN was always ready to serve the communities and aspired to fulfil the promise to provide takaful to all.

“This initiative is an apt move because low-income households are the group most at risk at unexpected times…we wish to give peace of mind to those who are less fortunate in facing unexpected situations,” said Azlin.

According to the statement, this programme offers a free basic takaful coverage of one year worth RM10,000 to household heads in which the beneficiaries will receive RM10,000 in compensation if the family breadwinner dies.

It said, unlike other Islamic insurance, this initiative provided a simple underwriting process and did not require a health examination and the compensation would be channelled directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries when death occurs.

It said recipients would be divided into three distribution stages, of which 3,120 recipients in Labuan, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, who were registered under the e-Kasih system received the takaful yesterday.

e-Kasih is the National Poverty Data Bank System.

Since its launch in 2018, PruBSN Prihatin has distributed free takaful coverage to 78,527 recipients and channelled 200 death compensation claims worth RM2 million to beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, ICU’s director-general Datuk Ruji Ubi said he hoped to continue co-operating (in the programme) and giving a big impact on society thus reducing the number of families at risk of losing their income.

“This is also among the series of poverty eradication programmes besides providing a decent standard of living to all the people in line with the government’s aspiration as contained in the 12th Malaysia Plan,” said Ruji.

The PruBSN Microtakaful Jariyah plan was mostly funded by the PruBSN zakat fund without any cost with the co-operation of takaful employees, customers and agents through the Giving @Workplace, One Donation, One Family and Ihsan Rider initiatives, offered via the PruBSN products, PruBSN AnugerahPlus, PruBSN WarisanPlus and PruBSN Aspirasi, read the statement.

Certificate holders can take part in this noble effort via the Ihsan rider with as low as five ringgit a month.

It said other than the Microtakaful Jariyah plan, PruBSN Prihatin was also actively involved with the community through other programmes including Vision for Education, Mobility is Life, ‘Bijak Belajar’ Programme, PruBSN Prihatin Flood Fund and home learning equipment aid last year.
