Selangor: The Selangor state government might postpone the Primary Religious School Assessment (PSRA) next week if the haze worsens in the state. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that the government and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) are closely monitoring the current situation, including reports from the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amirudin emphasized the need to evaluate the weather and environmental conditions before making any decisions regarding the postponement of the examinations. "We are looking at the current situation. If it gets worse, we will review. I can't make a direct decision as we need to look at the Meteorological report to see the weather and environmental conditions," he mentioned during a talk in conjunction with Malaysia Day 2026 at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Polytechnic.

Currently, Selangor has six areas with unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings. Johan Setia records the highest reading at 188, followed by Shah Alam (173), Klang (167), Petaling Jaya (166), Banting (164), and Kuala Selangor (163). Amirudin, who also serves as the Education Committee chairman, noted that the state government has established parameters for responding to the haze situation, including the closure of schools if API readings exceed 200.

"If it reaches 200, we will ask schools to close. If it reaches 300, we will also apply for Emergency. This is the criteria set and we will ask schools to close or to stop activities. Parents will also be advised to take their children home," he explained, adding that the state government is planning to distribute facemasks free to students in Selangor.

On a separate issue, Amirudin mentioned awaiting an audit or review of risky drains in Selangor following a previous incident of children drowning in Puncak Alam. He has requested the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council to provide an immediate report and take action to cover the drain.
