Puspakom Investigates Viral Slapping Incident at Johor Bahru Branch

Johor Bahru: The Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) is conducting an internal investigation to determine the cause of an incident where a customer slapped a Puspakom vehicle inspection staff member at the Johor Bahru branch, which recently went viral on social media. According to BERNAMA News Agency, Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman stated that the investigation revealed the suspect, a Puspakom customer, committed the violent act following the failure of his commercial vehicle in the brake test during the Periodic Inspection. The failure led the suspect to confront the Puspakom vehicle inspector and subsequently attack him. Mahmood emphasized that violence against Puspakom staff due to inspection failures is unacceptable, as the inspection indicates that the vehicle is not roadworthy. He urged customers receiving such results to repair their vehicles for their own and others' safety rather than acting aggressively. In response to the incident, Mahmood mentioned that his team is reviewing security measures at Puspakom premises to prevent future occurrences. He stressed that workplace safety for staff is a priority and reassured that Puspakom is committed to enforcing this policy. Mahmood also stated that Puspakom would cooperate with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure appropriate consequences for the perpetrator. The police had earlier confirmed the incident occurred on Nov 18 in Taman Daya, Johor Bahru, after receiving the viral video through a link on the X application, as stated by Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Raub Selamat.
