Putra Heights Fire: Victim Registration To Close At Noon Tomorrow – Amirudin

Subang Jaya: Victims of the gas pipeline fire incident in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, who have yet to register at the temporary evacuation centre (PPS) are advised to do so before the registration closes completely at noon tomorrow. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari emphasized the importance of registration to enable data verification by relevant agencies like the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Social Welfare Department, and the Petaling Land and District Office.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as of today, 509 families have registered at the PPS, though some do not reside there. The numbers are anticipated to rise as more people return home after the Raya celebrations since the incident occurred during the second Raya. The state government urges all unregistered victims to register before the deadline to ensure they receive the assistance announced earlier.

Amirudin highlighted the challenges in obtaining accurate data on the number of affected houses and victims, especially with premises being rented out to multiple tenants. To address this, a new assistance category will be introduced for tenants, offering RM2,500. Homeowners with completely damaged houses will receive RM5,000, while those with partially affected houses will receive RM2,500. This follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's previous announcement of immediate financial assistance.

Amirudin also urged relevant parties to identify victims who have not received assistance. Efforts are underway to contact these individuals to ensure the delivery of assistance, which is expected to be completed next week. He expressed gratitude to Petronas, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Implementation Coordination Unit for their role in managing the relief efforts.

Meanwhile, as of yesterday, 130 out of 235 houses in Taman Putra Harmoni deemed safe have allowed residents to return. However, residents of Kampung Sungai Baru remain displaced due to safety concerns reported by the fire department and other agencies. Amirudin reminded residents without permission not to return, as safety cannot be guaranteed, and security measures are being enhanced.

Victims wishing to retrieve important documents from their homes need to obtain permission and will be escorted by fire department personnel to ensure safety. Amirudin noted reports of victims feeling unwell after unauthorized returns, emphasizing the importance of following safety protocols. Some houses in affected areas remain structurally fragile, posing risks to occupants.
