Kuala Lumpur: The Selangor government has assured that the investigation into the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire in Subang Jaya will be carried out transparently, with no parties being protected.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated that audit teams from both the federal and state governments have been deployed to the Selangor Utility Corridor (KuSel) and the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ). This follows allegations of negligence on the part of both entities that may have led to the incident.
Amirudin explained that audits have been conducted on KuSel and MBSJ. These audits are intended to examine whether the approval processes for excavation works and alignments adhered to existing regulations. He expressed confidence that the truth will emerge but emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to prevent confusion.
Amirudin also addressed his earlier statement, which seemed to contradict the remarks of Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, who confirmed that excavation works had indeed taken place at the scene. Amirudin clarified that his initial statement was misunderstood and that there was never an intention to deny ongoing work or protect any party, as alleged by some social media users.
Additionally, Amirudin announced that the state government will provide transport services for children affected by the blaze to attend school starting the following day. Students who wish to use the service must be present at designated temporary relief centres, such as the Putra Heights Mosque or MBSJ's Dewan Camelia. Five vehicles from Prasarana and the Selangor demand-responsive transit (DRT) programme will be deployed to transport students to 34 schools, with the possibility of increasing the number of vehicles based on need.
Earlier reports from BERNAMA indicated that victims had requested transport assistance to send their children to and from school, as classes are set to resume after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
