PYANHABIB’S PASSING A GREAT LOSS TO THE INDUSTRY, SAY FELLOW ARTISTES

KUALA LUMPUR, Friends and fellow artistes described the passing of poet-actor Mohd Supyan Abdul Rahman, better known as Pyanhabib, as a great loss to the country’s arts industry.

Singer-songwriter M. Nasir said Pyanhabib was a unique and special artiste whose departure left an irreplaceable void.

‘There is no one else like him…his famous poem titled ‘Suara’ reflects his character until the end,’ he said, adding that the late poet was also a loyal friend.

Cartoonist turned actor and comedian Imuda described Pyanhabib as a kind-hearted and caring friend, an artiste loved by many.

‘We were close like brothers and have known each other since the early days of our careers…We hadn’t seen each other for a while as we were unwell.

‘I had so many sweet memories with him. In the early days, we used to share a meal of roti canai at Central Market and honed our talents to become good theatre players,’ he said, adding that they were each other’s best man.

Imuda said they last met early this year to rewatch ‘Mat Som
,’ the film they both starred in, a memory he would cherish forever.

The vocalist of the legendary band Blues Gang, Ito Mohd, who regarded Pyanhabib as an immensely talented and exceptional artiste, also expressed his sadness over Pyanhabib’s passing.

‘He was supposed to join us the day after tomorrow for the ‘Kopi, Lagu dan Puisi’ event at Bukit Malawati, Kuala Selangor,’ he added.

Similarly affected is National Laureate Datuk Seri A Samad Said, who hopes that Pyanhabib will always be remembered in literary events.

‘I appreciate his contributions to the literary field,’ he said.

Pyanhabib, 66, died at his home in Hulu Kelang last night due to old age, leaving his wife, Zurina Zakaria, 58, daughter Najihah, 31, and son Ahmad Ashman Farabi, 28.

He was laid to rest at the Lembah Keramat Muslim Cemetery, AU4, here at 11.30 am today.
