Kuala Lumpur: Racist behaviour, discriminatory remarks, and divisive rhetoric have no place in our society, said Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo. Gobind emphasized that such actions not only cause harm but also undermine racial harmony. He highlighted a recent incident involving a stall owner using derogatory terms against the Indian community, stressing the need for swift action. Gobind urged community and religious leaders, as well as all Malaysians, to actively promote inclusivity and mutual respect, advocating for a society where every individual is treated with dignity, regardless of race, ethnicity, or religion.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, a post featuring a corn seller's sales announcement with racial sentiments recently went viral on social media. In a separate statement, PKR Vice President Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad expressed regret over the incident in Kota Warisan, Sepang. Nik Nazmi, who also serves as Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, stated that such actions do not reflect the values of humanity and unity embraced by Malaysians. He emphasized the importance of treating every individual with respect and without discrimination, noting that the incident does not represent any particular race and typically involves only a small group engaging in extremist or racist behaviour.
Nik Nazmi urged all parties to remain calm and avoid actions that could disrupt social harmony. National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang also stated that any action or statement threatening racial and religious harmony in the country is unacceptable and cannot be compromised.
