Kuala lumpur: The Rain Rave Water Music Festival 2026 has generated an estimated RM392.33 million in economic returns, drawing approximately 415,000 attendees across events held in six states, as announced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the flagship event at Bukit Bintang attracted 150,000 domestic visitors and 100,000 international tourists from countries such as China, Japan, and India, contributing RM320.43 million to the economy. Meanwhile, other events in Terengganu, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Johor, Labuan, and Langkawi welcomed 165,000 visitors, generating an additional RM71.9 million.
The economic impact was calculated using data from Tourism Malaysia's Departing Visitors Survey, supported by the Department of Statistics Malaysia. During a session in the Dewan Rakyat, Tiong responded to Young Syefura Othman's inquiry about the festival's role in enhancing Malaysia's tourism appeal and cultural balance.
Tiong highlighted the festival as part of a broader government strategy to boost event-based tourism, involving collaboration between Tourism Malaysia and the private sector. The festival not only featured international entertainment but also showcased Malaysian cultural elements, including traditional music, fashion shows, and local cuisine.
The festival's total cost was RM15 million, with RM11 million funded by the government and RM4 million by the private sector. Tiong noted that for every RM1 spent, RM36 was returned to the economy. Despite potential ticket sales of RM75 million, the festival offered free admission to promote Visit Malaysia 2026 and celebrate Labour Day.
In response to Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi's question about the festival's suitability and expenditure, Tiong emphasized the inclusive nature of the event, welcoming international and domestic visitors regardless of race or religion.
