Kuala lumpur: The establishment of the Gig Consultative Council and Gig Workers Tribunal, along with the drafting of the National Human Resources Policy 2026-2035, are among the key priorities aimed at empowering the country's employment ecosystem over the next two years, stated Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan. These initiatives are expected to provide a governance and dispute resolution mechanism tailored to the realities of gig work.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ramanan emphasized that the creation of the Human Resources Policy is intended to enhance worker welfare, focusing on protection, safety, employment opportunities, and skills development. At a press conference following his introductory session and briefing with the Human Resources Ministry's (KESUMA) senior management, he reiterated his commitment to prioritizing worker welfare across all sectors.
Ramanan announced that an interim team is being formed to ensure the successful establishment of the Gig Consultative Council and Gig Tribunal by the first quarter of 2026. Other priorities for KESUMA include reforming labor laws, implementing the National Action Plan on Forced Labour 2.0 (2026-2030), and introducing a multi-tier levy mechanism.
He expressed his dedication to collaborating with KESUMA's senior management, staff, and associated departments and agencies to ensure that the implemented policies and initiatives effectively benefit the populace. Ramanan highlighted the importance of cooperation among all parties to strengthen the country's employment system, aiming for resilience, sustainability, and a focus on worker welfare.
Ramanan also conveyed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the trust placed in him to lead KESUMA. Additionally, he acknowledged and expressed gratitude to Steven Sim, the former Human Resources Minister, for his significant contributions and initiatives during his tenure.
