RATIFICATION OF C155 CONVENTION, TAKES NATIONAL LABOUR STANDARD TO ANOTHER LEVEL – UNI-MLC

KUALA LUMPUR, The government’s decision to ratify Convention C155 of the International Labor Organization (ILO), is a historic step in safeguarding workers’ welfare and will raise the country’s labour standards to a better level.

Union Network International – Malaysian Liaision Council (UNI-MLC) president Datuk Mohamed Shafie BP Mammal said he believed the move also proved the government’s continued commitment to improving occupational health and safety.

“This ratification became a reality less than a year after Steven Sim Chee Keong was appointed as Minister of Human Resources. Congratulations and well done to him.

“Certainly this latest step will give an injection of effort and enthusiasm among all stakeholders,” he said in a statement, today.

The ILO Convention C155 ratification document was handed over by Sim to ILO Director-General Gilbert F Houngbo while attending the 112th International Labor Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, yesterday.

The Ministry of Human Resources in a statement yesterday sa
id that the move will be complementary to the implementation of policies and legislation related to occupational safety and health in the country following the amendment to the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (Act 514) (Amendment) 2022 (Act A1648) which comes into force on June 1

According to the ministry, it is hoped that it will lead to an increase in safety and health at workplaces throughout the country
